Wild Birdseed Mix with Canary Seeds

Ingredients

  • 1 cup canary seeds (small, smooth seeds loved by finches and canaries)

  • ½ cup millet (white or red; provides energy and texture)

  • ½ cup oats (rolled or cut; adds fiber and bulk)

  • ¼ cup sunflower seeds (hulled for small birds, whole for larger wild birds)

  • ¼ cup safflower seeds (good for cardinals, finches, and avoids squirrels)

Optional add-ins

  • 2 tbsp cracked corn (attracts sparrows, doves, juncos)

  • 2 tbsp hemp seeds (high protein, loved by small birds)

  • 1–2 tbsp dried berries (cranberries, currants; treat and vitamin boost)

  • Small pinch of ground eggshells (calcium for nesting birds)

Method

  1. Combine all seeds and grains in a large, dry bowl.

  2. Mix thoroughly so seeds are evenly distributed.

  3. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Keeps fresh for several weeks.

  4. Fill feeders or scatter on a platform feeder for small wild birds.
